We know that among you there are those who have tried or are planning to train simultaneous interpretation on their own.
Below we offer a list of skills that a simultaneous interpreter needs to develop:
1. Decalage - the ability to let the speaker go until the moment of receiving a unit of meaning (sometimes it is 1-2 seconds, and sometimes 5 or more)
2. Analysis - the ability to prioritize information, what is important and what is secondary for transmission in conditions of simultaneous translation
3. Reformulation - the ability to switch from language to language (for example, in English there are passive constructions and in translation into Russian we have to repackage this construction, not to calculate the original)
4. Prediction - the ability to understand where the author is leading you
5. Compression - the ability to "compress" part of speech
6. Decompression - the ability to "expand" a part of speech
7. Segmentation (Salami technique) - the ability to translate long sentences/meanings by breaking them into small ones
