The costs of interpreters of the German Federal Police are growing significantly
From January to August 2023, almost 83 million euros were spent on translators.
The immigration policy of the last few years also means that the federal police obviously have to communicate more often in different foreign languages. And of course it costs money. Below is the Federal Government's response to the parliamentary group's question:
What expenses did the Federal Police incur for translators or language intermediaries this year (August 31, 2023) compared to the same period last year and the corresponding periods of 2015 and 2016?
"The total expenses of the Federal Police for the use of hired language intermediaries in the corresponding period from January 1 to August 31 of the corresponding year amounted to:
2015 44,653,000 euros
2016 45,084,000 euros
2022 67,623,000 euros
2023 82,898,000 euros
It is explicitly stated that these are general expenses in the context of performing the tasks of the federal police. Separate accounting of border police activities is not conducted and is not planned."
Keep in mind that these are only expenses for the first eight months of each year, and only those incurred by the German Federal Police.
